Paintings

A painted face resolves quickly. It arrives already speaking. It forecloses the space where a viewer might otherwise linger, question, or project. My work withholds that explanation. In place of the face, an absence — a void the body must carry the weight of instead. This gesture extends a line of exploration that began in my photographic practice, where hands, isolated and enlarged, offered a similar kind of evidence: proof of a life lived, without ever dictating how it should be read. The erasure of the face, in this case, expresses the same refusal.
