A Memory of Somewhere

Nostalgia, literally translated as a longing for one’s homeland, has gradually expanded in meaning to describe a longing for something that has passed, or for something that exists but remains unreachable in the present moment.

It is an elusive experience, difficult to capture in words or images. Nostalgia emerges through memories and imagined images of things that may have existed, transformed over time by fading, distortion, and the emotions attached to their recollection.

Everyday proximity to objects can weaken our awareness of their emotional significance; it is often distance that reveals the bond between a person and the object of their longing. Nostalgia exposes what escapes everyday perception and what ordinary life tends to conceal.

This work is an attempt to explore these moments of elusiveness, ambiguity, and transformation that memories leave behind.
